What is a burn?
It is a tissue injury often caused by more or less prolonged contact with a heat source.

The different degrees of severity:

• 1st degree: like sunburn, household burns, quick contact with a flame. The skin is intact but red and painful, with no blisters or tears. Healing occurs spontaneously after 5 to 6 days.
• Superficial 2nd degree: a blister appears filled with clear liquid. The pain is severe and the dermis is red. Healing occurs spontaneously after 10 days.
• Deep 2nd degree: results from prolonged contact with a heat source (boiling water, oil, etc.). Blisters are usually burst. Under these blisters, the dermis is discolored, and the pain is mild. The epidermis is destroyed and requires medical attention.
• 3rd degree: the skin is leathery, white or brownish, insensitive, it is completely destroyed and requires hospital care.

What is a superficial wound?
A wound (cut, scrape, scratch, etc.) is considered superficial when it only affects the skin and immediately underlying fat.
