Refined, cold-filtered macadamia oil obtained by mechanical pressing. The macadamia tree, native to Australia, subsequently spread to Hawaii, the Pacific, South America, and South Africa. The pressed oil is distinguished by its mild, nutty scent and taste, as well as its light yellow color. Subsequent refining (deacidification, bleaching, deodorization) results in a very clear oil with an almost neutral taste and scent.
Its high palmitoleic acid (C16:1) content makes macadamia oil attractive to the cosmetic industry. This acid, bound to triglycerides, easily penetrates the upper layers of the skin. Macadamia oil is increasingly used as a substitute for mink oil.
