The Damask Rose owes its name to the capital of Syria, but it is a rose variety that finds its roots in Persia, modern-day Iran. The major components of the essential oil can vary depending on the plant's origin. The Damask Rose is a thorny shrub (1 to 2 m) with dark pink flowers. The precious essential oil of Damask Rose (also called: Rose Otto or Rose Attar) has an intense, sweet, and captivating fragrance. It must be distinguished from rose water and rose CO2 extract, which are less expensive, and from the essential oil of Rosa centifolia (Moroccan Rose).
